Santa Caterina Valfurva is both a winter and summer tourist resort in the province of Sondrio (Upper Valtellina), 1,738 metres above sea level. It rises from a flood plain surrounded by an unrestricted, wild natural area which is in the heart of the StelvioNational Park.
It is situated where the valleys of Forni and Gavia meet, at the centre of the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range, one of the most important areas from a naturalistic, historic and mountaineering point of view in the Alps.
From December to May Santa Caterina offers 45 kilometres of ski-slopes and 15 kilometres of cross-country tracks, well covered in snow, not only thanks to nature but also to the modern plant of programmed artificial snow, thus becoming an idyllic area for snow-lovers.
Santa Caterina is famous for having organized and hosted
the Alpine Ski World Championships - Women’s competitions in 1985,and also numerous World Cup competitions for both alpine skiing and cross-country skiing in recent years. S.Caterina Valfurva was the headquarters of Alpine World Ski Championships Bormio 2005.
A suggestion for all skiers, whatever speciality they prefer! If you are tired aftera day on the snow, why don’t you relax just a few kilometres from S. Caterina. The Spa Baths in Bormio, the Bagni Vecchi (Old Baths) and the Bagni Nuovi (New Bath) offer moments of rest and well-being not only physically but also psychologically.
